Everything I have I owe to You
Everything I have I owe to You
You are the hope for the hurting
And You are the peace for the mourning
For it comes from Your hand, help me understand
It comes from You
Wherever You lead I will go
Whatever my lot, Lord, I will follow
For You are light even in darkness
When all my strength I count as weakness
As Your Providence is my sole defense
I follow You
Until the day that You descend
And I find out how this whole thing will end
Until then let me begin
To find a friend in Providence
And from Your love: my guarantee
That where I was I will not be
For what goes down must come up again
And what begins must at long last end
And although the sea is never still
I trust in You

About "Providence"
It is extremely difficult for me to concede that everything that happens in my life is a direct result of God's
Providence: in direct contact with me, or in His silence. Somehow I am to believe that not only is everything of
eternal consequence, but that all events - no matter how trying - are for my benefit if I truly follow Him. A sailor
has to believe that though he may encounter rough storms or be utterly lost - that "although the sea is never still",
he will find his way home if he keeps his eye on the North Star. How completely hopeless we feel sometimes when we
are not able to help ourselves! When the waves are above our heads and can easily overpower us, there is no hope
from men. Survival depends on keeping our bearing with the only compass that does not waver: Him. Ultimately,
trusting in Providence is about obedience. You obey things that you trust, and you trust things when you try them
and they don't falter. Learning to find a friend in Providence is learning to accept the things that happen to you.
